Grand Seiko's 2025 releases will feature the new "UFA" movement.

I absolutely love all of Grand Seiko's dial textures; I just find their naming convention tiresome. They keep using the same names for things, like "Lion's Mane." This Tentagraph is clearly inspired by a lion's mane blowing in the wind. Never mind that they already have a "Lion's Mane" dial texture for something completely different. Grand Seiko's marketing foibles aside, the new "Lion's Mane in the Wind" dial features a beautiful chestnut brown hue that complements the rubber strap and looks great. The sporty deep dial, concave subdials, and reddish-orange accents keep the brown from looking too bland.

But the real interest lies in the new case. Grand Seiko has had a similar, highly angular, blocky case since 2019, but this new "Tokyo Lion" case has a more pronounced octagonal shape. While I'm sure some will compare it to the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak (especially the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Concept), I actually find it more similar to the Girard-Perregaux Laureato Absolute. This updated "Tokyo Lion" case measures 43mm in diameter, slightly smaller than the 44.5mm diameter of the older model.

This is also the first Grand Seiko sports watch to feature a case made of bright hardened titanium. The high-frequency 9SC5 chronograph movement inside, beating 10 times per second, offers a three-day power reserve and guarantees daily accuracy within -3 to +5 seconds. While the 15.6mm thickness isn't ideal, nor is the $16,400 retail price, it's a truly stunning watch.
